Outdoor lighting has come a long way over the years.
Sean learns that a professionally-installed lighting system can bring beauty and safety to your home.
Owner of Fancy Cutz, Brian Swain, turned his love for the outdoors into a business in 2006. His business Fancy Cutz is a landscaping company that covers irrigation, hardscaping, nutrient management, and lighting.
Brian says making homes beautiful is an art form.
“When you pass a house your eyes are immediately attracted to light and what I wanted to do was you know you go by a house throughout the year and unless it’s the holidays, it’s kind of dark,” Brian says. “So now people can come home and see beautiful works of art in their yard.”
Part of the creative process is finding a way to make the lights blend in.
“You don’t want to see wires. You want everything hidden as well as possible,” Brian says. “We have the capability now to use several different colors of fixtures. Whether it’s bronze metallic to blend with the mulch bed or a flat back black to blend in with the roofline or the shutters. We even offer them in copper.”
These lights go beyond making your home more aesthetically pleasing and Brian says they can also make your home safer.
“When you light your home, everything is visible as much as you want to be visible. It’s a deterrent in a lot of ways, but it’s also safe when coming up the sidewalk if there’s a step there, or step down, you can easily capture that in an elegant way so it makes the home more beautiful,” Brian says.

Brian says the technology to control the lights are so simple his young daughter can do it. The lights do have to be holiday themes, you can light up your house in any color you’d like. Even a soft white to show off your home.
“This is most likely your number one investment and I know for me personally, my home means a lot to me, and it’s constantly evolving,” Brian says. “You want your home to be welcoming so when you come up or when you have guests over, or even a dinner party. I know that holidays, there’s always a big rush so it’s get the Christmas decorations up, get the Christmas decorations down. Now for those who want to, just tap a button.”
