While we may not have appreciated the recent wet weather, the plants and flowers in the beautiful gardens around Delmarva must have loved it.

Unfortunately, many of the gardens in the area are located on private property and not accessible to the public, but the Lewes Chamber of Commerce has come up with a solution to this problem.

The Lewes Garden Tour is an event the Chamber of Commerce has been doing for the past 26 years that allows people to marvel at the beauty of the many private gardens around Lewes. People on the tour get an opportunity to talk to the garden owners, ask question and generate ideas for their own gardens.

The tour features eight houses that are selected by a committee who travels around Lewes on the lookout for eye catching gardens. Betsy Reamer, Lewes Chamber of Commerce member, says that they are lucky in that garden owners almost always agree to share their gardens with the community for the tour.

This years garden stops are spread throughout the area with 5 houses in town and 3 at Lewes Beach. Each garden offers unique attractions and differ in size, layout and types of plants.

Tickets for the Lewes garden tour are available at the visitor center and can be bought ahead of time or the day of the tour. The Chamber of Commerce also offers a shuttle service to the gardens for a hassle free experience.

Tour goers are free to explore Lewes’ other attractions and restaurants during the tour and purchase a memento for their own garden from one of the 40 garden vendors at the garden market next to the visitors center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lewes Garden Tour will take place Saturday June, 18 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and tickets are on sale at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce visitor center.
