The American Heart Association has redefined high blood pressure.
PRMC‘s Chief of Cardiology Division and Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Dr. Jeffrey Wieland sorts out the changes saying the changes were made back in November following a trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine called the Sprint Trial.
Dr. Wieland says they took 10,000 people and randomized people into standard treatment and intensive treatment. He said the intensively treated patients had fewer heart attacks, less heart failure, and improved overall mortality.
