A couple year ago, we did a “Put It To the Test” with Porch Protection Systems.
The system turns your screened porch into a year-round space. Each time we showed that segment, we would get calls and emails from homeowners wanting to know more. So Lisa recently talked with Bill Whaley of Porch Protection Systems to get a refresher on how this product works.
“It’s a porch accessory, basically, that’s porch covers, that are easily operated up and down,” Bills says. “The basic thing is it allows you to use your porch year-round. They are manually operated. You just pull a cord and they roll up, and then you tie it off to a cleat and they stay up. “When they’re rolled up, basically your porch is like it was before we ever came around,.”
Bill says, if you have nice furniture on your porch that you wouldn’t want to get wet, you can drop the, down and it keeps everything from getting wet. It also performs well with wind, snow, and pollen.
Bill also tells us that keeping it clean is really easy.
“The best way to take care of it is just rinse it off with a garden hose when it gets dirty,” he says.
The folks at Porch Protection Systems says it also holds heat surprisingly well. They use a grommet system which does not seal the vertical sides, which means you do not have to be concerned with ventilation issues.
Porch Protection Systems are good for the wind, rain, and even the winter season.
“I’ve tried to explain to people in the past how big a difference this thing makes when it’s down in the winter time. And it’s really hard to get people to believe me,” Bill says. “So one day I got the idea, ‘I’ll shoot a video.’ It’s seventeen degrees outside and I can prove it because my TV’s on… So, I film from there, through the porch, videoed the outside. You can see the porch system deployed, walked back in the porch and zoomed up to a thermometer that I have on the porch. And it was 70 degrees in my porch. And only a foot away through that curtain, it’s 17 degrees. That’s a huge difference.”
Bill also says Porch Protection Systems help with pollen and the maintenance is easy as well.
