With winter coming, heating your home is very important.

Sean stopped by Survival Products in Salisbury and learned about a few options that will have you comfy and cozy in no time – and may even score you some cash.

Joe Pagliaro tells us that Survival Products has been providing alternative heat sources to the Delmarva community for over 35 years.

Pellet stoves take wood-compressed sawdust turned into a pellet form, and the stove is on top. You set the thermostat to whatever you’d like. Joe tells us that some stoves can also burn corn.

“We do have some stoves that can burn a mixture of pellet and corn,” Joe says. “Or we do have one stove that actually can burn corn, wheat, sunflower seeds, or pellets.”

Wood burning stoves are always popular.

“It’s reliant heat and dependable. You don’t need a power source to operate it,” Joe says.

Gas stoves also do not need electricity.

When trying to decide which heat source is best for them, Joe says the family needs to ask themselves which will be the easiest and most convenient for them.

“We want to listen to their concerns whether it’s an expensive heating bill, a primary source of heat, a supplement source of heat. Once we establish what their needs are, we can decipher whether a wood stove, pellet or gas, would be the best option,” Joe says.

Joe says almost all of the pellet stoves they carry qualify for a $700 Maryland grant program.

“After the stove has been purchased and installed by us, you fill out the application and submit it over to the state of Maryland and then in a couple weeks or so, $700 comes back to you after the fact,” Joe says.
