If you think about it, the kitchen is the heart of the home.

It’s a central location in the house where everyone meets up a couple of times a day. While a kitchen needs to be functional and durable, most want it to be attractive too. Stone counter tops from That Granite Place in Bridgeville fit the bill for both functionality and durability and come in several beautiful designs.

Owner Victor Bautista says granite and quartz are both very strong. Granite comes from quarries around the world. The huge chunks of rock are sliced up into slabs.

“Granite is a very hard stone, you can actually cut on it,” says Bautista

Quartz countertops are fabricated from natural quartz, one of the hardest minerals found in the earth.

“Quartz is a lot more durable in the aspect that it won’t really stain,” says Bautista

But, when it comes to heat, Bautista says granite can take it. Granite can withstand up to 1,200 degrees, which means you can sit a hot pot on it. Quartz, however, can only take heat up to 350 degrees.

Marble is another option. Like granite, it comes from the ground and is sliced into slabs. Bautista said marble is a good option for bathroom countertops
