When you walk into the lobby of the Tidewater Inn in Easton, you’re walking into a piece of Talbot County history.

In 1891, The Hotel Avon was built but was destroyed by a fire in 1944. In 1947, A. Johnson Grymes broke ground on The Tidewater Inn. Since that time, there have been several additions and renovations to what is now known as “The Pride of the Eastern Shore.”

The Tidewater Inn Features 92 well-appointed guest rooms, Hunters’ Tavern and newly renovated event venues perfect for a night out on the town.

With all the changes made to the building, what has attracted guests to The Tidewater Inn over the years has not changed. Over the years, those guests included Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, John and Robert Kennedy, Bing Crosby, Robert Mitchum, and Harrison Ford, just to name a few.

Chef Raymond Copper started working at The Tidewater Inn in 1963. He says he will never forget the day Elizabeth Taylor walked through the doors.

Elizabeth Taylor was like a southern belle, she was one of the most interesting people that you would want to converse with, Raymond says.

In 2009, The Tidewater Inn changed ownership again. What followed was extension renovations including the addition of an outdoor ballroom area and The Skipjack Bar in Hunters’ Tavern.
