SALISBURY, Md.- Parkside High School will host the annual Delmarvacade of Bands Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Wicomico County Stadium in Salisbury for a night of music and marching by bands throughout the region.
The event is expected to draw several thousand people, including bands, family members and spectators.
The competition will begin at 5 p.m., with each band performing the typical halftime show rehearsed for football games. Each performance will range from seven to 12 minutes. Bands are scheduled to play every 15 minutes.
The National Judges Association will adjudicate the event based on various aspects of their field show, including musical and visual elements, overall performance and individual elements. A score will be received based on a 100-point scale.
There will be an awards ceremony at the end of the night with four categories depending on the number of instrumentalists per band. Winners will be awarded a trophy.
“The bands compete in different categories depending on the size,” said Tracy Sahler, a spokesperson for Wicomico County Public Schools.
Parkside and Bennett High School are in Group 3 Open Class, and Wicomico is a part of Group 3 A class. Sahler said each of the bands has anywhere from 50 to 100 members.
Parkside’s band will perform an exhibition as host of the event.
“So that there isn’t any perception that they have an advantage, they don’t compete to receive a ranking in their own contest,” she said.
Delmarvacade is sponsored by Parkside High School and its Band Boosters club.
Admission to Delmarvacade of Bands is $8 and a program detailing the participants may be purchased for $5. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Women Supporting Women of Salisbury.
A makeup day is scheduled for Oct. 15 in case of inclement weather.
