The business started up years ago but after some complications, plans went on hold.

“We started in 2011—that’s when the idea took shape,” Petite Sweets Owner, Albert Sierra, said. “We were running it for a couple months when my wife got pregnant with our second child so we had to stop.”

In December 2014, Petite Sweets started up again in full force. This time around, Albert Sierra and his wife, Keila Montalvo, went straight into wholesale and distributing to restaurants.

Prior to Milford, Del., the cake pop family lived in New Jersey.

“We traveled to Delaware every summer—my mother-in-law lives in Milford and we fell in love with the location,” Sierra said.

When Petite Sweets decided to move to Milford, they experienced a retail merge. The store wanted to continue with wholesale distribution, giving customers the ability to come to the store.

“The whole 9 yards—custom orders, catering to kids and adults…” Sierra said.

The shop specializes in cake pops and says day in and day out, they use the highest quality ingredients to boost the products they have. Sierra calls the shop’s cake pops ‘simple, yet very satisfying products for the customers.’

As far as the grand opening of the business just last week, Sierra was very pleased.

“It went very well— a lot of people came by and supported, it was just a great time,” Sierra said.

Sierra has big plans for his Milford business. The shop aims to keep expanding the wholesale part of the company but to also add community events. One idea up for discussion right now is offering events packages. These packages would allow the costumer to dip and decorate their cake pops and ‘be hands on with the whole experience of it.’

Sierra and his wife have also entertained the idea of opening a few more stores in the area, maybe even up to five stores in Delaware. The duo compared the cake pop business to the cupcake and frozen yogurt businesses which have both expanded over the years.

“We believe it is the next big idea,” Sierra added.
