Delaware Electric Cooperative‘s, Jeremy Tucker, tells about how a helicopter may be seen flying over Sussex County to inspect power lines. Special imaging equipment uses a laser to produce detailed images which lets engineers know when trees are too close to power lines, the lines are too close together, or too close to the road.
Tory Dickerson, Co-op Engineer, says once they receive the images they put together a plan of action to fix the issues. Co-op officials saying using a combination of aerial scanning and traditional inspections is cost effective and more efficient.
