Self Defense Moves Mindset Monday Nov. 2 2015 YouTube

The risk of you being attacked for one reason or another is almost always constant. Whether it be for your purse or belongings, or sadly, for many women, sexual assault.

Sexual Assault:

  • Someone is sexually assaulted every 107 seconds
  • 293,000 victims each year
  • 1 in every 6 women
  • 3%, or 1 in every 33 men

You can take steps to protect yourself from attackers. Caroline Portugal, defense professional, shared her story and some self defense tips with us. If she didn’t know the palm-smash technique when she was attacked in 2005, she might not be here today.

“Knowledge and confidence will conquer fear,” says Portugal.

Tips:

  • Avoid being glued to your phone
  • Lock your doors-car and home
  • Be super alert in confined spaces like elevators
  • If you’re with children, stay between the child and the threat

It is important to stay well informed about the crime in your area. Lt. Tim Robinson talks about crime on Delmarva. He explains that drug use and theft are the most common crimes here, but assaults so still happen. Most suspects and victims of assault cases are familiar with one another, but there are random assaults as well.

As the holiday season approaches, there are going to be people who pray on shoppers, especially at night.

Lt. Robinson shares that the common denominator for most crimes are unlocked doors on cars and homes.

Remember to lock your doors and avoid doing any shopping by yourself and especially avoid shopping by yourself at night.
