In case you didn’t know, there is something called Berlin Bathtub Races!

Held by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce, the Berlin Bathtub Races were started by businessmen Jesse Turner and James Barrett. Jesse Turner was also the previous owner of the Berlin Shoe Box. Mr. Turner’s bathtub racer became a local legend as the most “Winningest Bathtub in Berlin History.”

As a business owner, Jesse Turner was recognized as a true servant to the community. Frank and Susan Baker, of Berlin, have donated the late Jesse Turner’s award-winning bathtub racer to the town for display Berlin’s Welcome Center on Main Street.

I spoke with Mayor Gee Williams and the Berlin Maryland Chamber of Commerce to find out how this display will also work as a collection site for shoe donations in honor of Jesse Turner’s legacy.

The welcome center is accepting gently used shoes of any size for men or women. The center will be open to receiving shoes Monday-Friday 10 am to 4 pm. For more information on how you can donate, head to their website.
