According to festival organizers, the main goal is to gather as many donated items as possible, ranging from clothes, blankets, jackets, bedding and non-perishable food. Those who donate will receive free admission to the show. If you don’t have anything to donate, the $3 admission cost will serve as your donation. All items and money collected during the event will benefit Milford area charities.
“We thought it was a great idea to partner with the Miss Milford Organization and do something that gets people together for fun, but also gives back to the community,” said Jason Burlew, co-organizer and co-founder of The Happiness Project Music Festival.”
Burlew and Candy Fortney started the Happiness Project Music Festival in 2015 with hopes of merging music and mental health awareness together to provide community outreach and entertainment. Burlew and Fortney say the primary goal is to combine local music with local non-profit groups and vendors to provide community outreach. The secondary goal is to collaborate with local businesses, non-profit groups, and community agencies to provide positive entertainment for their establishment, special event, or community program.
According to organizers, the two festivals held to date have included more than 30 performers, 20 non-profit organizations, and have been attended by over 1,200 people.
The organizations most recent festival was held in Smyrna, Del. in Sept. 2015. Since this festival, the group has scheduled free monthly concerts for patients and families at AI duPont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Del. In addition, the organization has participated in events that support Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, Active Minds and the Children’s Miracle Network.

“We are committed to partnering with non-profit organizations to help promote their event and cause,” Fortney said. “With ‘Donate for Happiness’ we get to help many different non-profit and charitable organizations in the city of Milford with just one event.”
