38% of adults have some kind of tooth sensitivity as a result of wear and tear on their teeth. Dr. Joseph Harmon, with Delmarva Dental Services, says sensitivity happens when an inside layer of the tooth called dentin is exposed. Dentin is between the tooth’s enamel and nerve.

Dr. Leigh Auchey, with Delmarva Dental Services, says we live where there are a lot of allergies and sinus pressure is a big deal. “When you build up that fluid and pressure in the sinuses in particular in your upper teeth, and especially the back teeth and the upper arch, you will feel that pressure on those roots and it will make your teeth feel sensitive as well,” Auchey says.

Dr. Auchey says brushing too hard can cause gum recession and can increase tooth sensitivity. Dr. Harmon says if the pain doesn’t go away, or gets worse, it could be a sign the nerve in your tooth is dying and you need to get it checked out.

Toothsavers App asks kids to save the kingdom from bad breath and plaque by brushing their teeth. Apps like this help kids learn how to properly brush their teeth and it’s entertaining.
