The Treasures of the Sea Exhibit at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, Del. holds treasures and artifacts from the Nuestra Señora de Atocha, the Spanish ship that sank in 1622 off the Florida Keys. The ship was carrying copper, silver, gold, gems, jewels, jewelry, tobacco, and indigo.
American treasure hunter, Mel Fisher and his team searched the sea for sixteen and a half years before they found the treasures of the Atocha. After discovering the treasure, the state of Florida claimed title to the wreck and asked for 25%. After 8 years of litigation, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Fisher allowing him to keep all his findings for himself. The value of the Atocha’s cargo was estimated at half a billion dollars.

Visit the Treasures of the Sea Exhibit to see and touch a 3,000 lb. bronze cannon, cannon balls, and all the treasures Fisher and his team discovered so many years ago. They also offer guided tours for adults and school children.
