A winter wonderland at the beach.
The second annual Weekend Wonderland kicked off on Saturday, Dec. 3, offering visitors a chance to shop, dine and carol around the Christmas Tree on the Bandstand in Bethany Beach, Del.
The event is a collaboration between the town of Bethany Beach, Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and the downtown businesses. It will take place every Saturday before Christmas.
“It’s a way to extend the season,” Julie Malewski, event director for the town of Bethany Beach, says. “Last Saturday acted as a way to start off the event.”
Due to Bethany’s high season is the summertime, Malewski says many think the town closes in August, but it doesn’t.
“This event, it’s just a way to get people here and to show that we’re still here. Last year is the first time the businesses got in on it and it caused a boom in profits for them and just made the whole town feel more festive.”

Malewski says the event supports the hustle and bustle of the season by providing a festive atmosphere for holiday shopping. While patrons shop, various groups will hold performances and sing-alongs. After shopping, customers can indulge in the town’s many restaurants.
“It’s just a great way to celebrate the season for us as we ride out the year. Even if it’s cold, we’re still here enjoying the beach side festivities.”
