Today on DelmarvaLife:
The Wicomico Rotary Clubs are giving you an opportunity to honor an active duty, retired or deceased veteran, first responder, a physician, teacher, or anyone who has been a true hero in your life with the Flags for Heroes Project. A flag will be dedicated to that person and flown in their honor at the intersection of Hobbs Rd. and Route 50 in Salisbury around the Memorial Day holiday. Sponsorships start at $50 and proceeds support local military and veteran causes. In 2016, its inaugural year, Flags For Heroes generated $4,500, which was donated to Operation We Care, which regularly sends care boxes to our servicemen and servicewomen overseas. To learn more about the 2017 Flags for Heroes project or to sponsor a flag, please visit the Flags For Heroes website at www.flags4heroes.org.
Kylie is a 14-year-old eighth grade student at Stephen Decatur Middle School where she is active in color guard and softball. Kylie was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the beginning of the year and now the Delmarva community is rallying to show its support for Kylie. Brenda Kelly is a family friend and joins us on the couches today to tell us more about Kylie. The upcoming event, Karaoke for Kylie, is April 22 at Showell Fire Dept. The benefit will help with medical and daily expenses for Kylie and her family.
For years, the American Heart Association has pulled out all the stops to raise money for its Heart Ball campaign. Last year alone, the group raised just over $71 million dollars to fund life-saving research and prevention programs. Much of that money is pumped right back to Delmarva, to help people boost their heart health. WBOC is proud to be a partner with the 2017 Southern Delaware Heart Ball. DelmarvaLife’s Melinda Carrie stops by Dover to learn more about what to expect at this years event.
Admit it. You’ve dressed your dog or cat up in a costume a time or two. Now, you can see several pets in their finest threads at Rescues Rock the Runway and it’s all for a great cause. Event Organizer, Amanda Knauff, and a few furry friends join us in the studio to tell us all about this event on April 8 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Md. Admission is a $5 minimum donation or pet supplies for the humane society.
Chef Joe White from the Shrimp Boat, also representing Shore Craft Beer, joins us in the DelmarvaLife kitchen to make beer-battered fish using Dogfish Head Beer.
