We are going to the southernmost town in Maryland, the seafood capital of the world, the Somerset County Community of Crisfield.
Crisfield was built on the seafood industry, but there is so much more to the city. Add to that the water, the wonderful people who call Crisfield home, the way life used to be in the Somerset County community, and you have the makings of a small town that stands out on Delmarva. No one knows that better than the president of the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce, Buddy Ward.
As with most towns on Delmarva, Crisfield has a rich and treasured history. A lot of that history is laid out in the Crisfield Heritage Foundation‘s J. Millard Tawes Historical Museum on Ninth Street. There you’ll find different exhibits that showcase Crisfield’s 350 years of history, stories about its people, and features that give you a better understanding of Crisfield’s deep roots. We make a stop to see for ourselves.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Delmarva over the years, it’s that there is no shortage of artistic talent, and a lot of that talent can be found in Crisfield. The city recently designated an Arts and Entertainment District that’s getting ready to flourish. The core of this district is the Corbin Studio and Gallery on Main Street.
It’s easy to connect with nature and take in the serene scenes along the beautiful water in Crisfield. Whether you want to enjoy some time camping, or spend the day on, what’s described as, an isolated beach, Janes Island State Park offers it all. DelmarvaLife’s Katie Zarrilli stopped by to show you this picture-perfect park.
The water that surrounds Crisfield makes it the ideal place for fishing, boating, sailing, and swimming. So, it just makes sense for Crisfield to be home to a marina like no other. Boaters from around the world have found what makes Somers Cove Marina special, and the team has no plans of slowing down their exceptional service, anytime soon. Somers Cove Marina is also the location of the annual National Hard Crab Derby.
Don’t let the name, Bubby’s Wing Shack, throw you off. Yes, the menu does offer some of the best wings you can get your hands on, but that’s just the start of it.
