We learn about a special designation for an almost 100-year-old school in Georgetown. The Richard Allen School will be added to the National Register of Historic Places tomorrow. We sit down with two members of the Richard Allen Coalition Board, Jane Hovington and Betty Deacon, to hear more about the school’s history, and how you can be a part of the celebration.
At 24 years old, boat builder John B. Harrison, from Tilghman Island, created the Edna E. Lockwood. The nine-log bugeye launched on October 5, 1889, with an expected lifespan of 20 years. More than a century later, Harrison’s creation hit the waters of the Chesapeake Bay one more time. Later this month, she’ll make a stop in Crisfield. It’s part of the last historic bugeye ship’s heritage tour around the Chesapeake Bay. Executive Director of the Crisfield Heritage Foundation, Casey Goldsborough, tells us more about the trip, and the history of the vessel.
