Today on DelmarvaLife:
Many across the country struggle with poor self image. But, one local student is trying to change that. Martina Maya-Callen, an artist and senior at Salisbury University, is a self-love activist. She speaks to us about her personal story with body acceptance, a previous art piece she made for National Eating Disorder Awareness week, and her :”love your vessel: movement. Martina also touches on how you at home can “love your vessel,” and the solo art exhibition she will be holding later this week titled “I’m Fine.” The art show will take place Sunday, March 4th from 1 pm – 3 pm at Gallery 303 in Salisbury.
When looking back at your years in school, there is often a teacher that you remember made a positive impact on your life. Wicomico County Public Schools is holding a Teacher Recruitment Fair looking for teachers ready to change the lives of local students. Patti Adkins, recruiting coordinator for WCPS and Dave Harris, principal of Fruitland Primary, come in to give us more information on what the county is looking for in an ideal candidate, grade levels they are looking to fill, and how the county is supporting their teachers. If you’d like more information about the fair, click here!
For those on the peninsula looking for work, it can be difficult to find those that are hiring in your field, but that just got a lot easier with the WBOC Job Fair hosted by Royal Farms and BesTemps. We interview Renee Roberson, area operations manager with the Delaware Department of Labor about the fair that boasts over 700 jobs, how it is helping with more than just job searching, and what to expect. The WBOC Job Fair will take place Saturday, March 3rd from 10 am – 4 pm at Delaware Technical Community College Owens Campus in Georgetown. More information can be found here!
Here on Delmarva, the community prides itself on its ability to come together when its members face hardships and rally around them through tough times. Illness, death, financial hardships, and tragic accidents can happen at any time, and the Good Ole Boy Foundation is there to help when members are facing some of life’s hardest battles. Jason McCabe and Josh Wharton, two members of the foundation, join us today to talk about “Getting Piggy With It,” the 4th annual pig roast, shrimp, and beer benefit that helps aid the Good Ole Boy Foundation, as well as the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Dept. The benefit will take place Saturday, March 3rd from 5 pm – 11 pm at the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door and this event is for those 21 and over. If you’d like to purchase tickets or for more information, click here!
We’ve got some amazing kids here on the peninsula and one of them joins us today! In the DelamarvaLife kitchen, we are joined by Tyler Potocki, a Milford boy who is competing on the upcoming season of MasterChef Junior! Tyler makes one of his favorite dishes for us today: chicken tenders. For mouth-watering goodness, make sure to tune in today at 5 pm! MasterChef Junior premieres tomorrow, Friday, March 2nd at 8 pm on our sister channel, FOX21.
