Today on DelmarvaLife:

We are preparing for the kick off the summer 2017 by highlighting all things Ocean City!

Starting our ‘Ode to OC’ we took a walk down history lane, and learned a bit more about the famous Ocean City boardwalk. The 120-year-old boardwalk has a rich history dating back to 1892, when the Sinepuxent Beach Corporation first, informally, built the boardwalk as a way for local hotel guests to walk around town. At the time, the streets in Ocean City were actually made of sand and when high tide or a heavy storm surge came in, walking on the sand was nearly impossible. Thanks to the laying of the boards, people were able to get out without trudging through wet sand.

From the boardwalk to the beach, everyone’s knows the tall, famous chairs that sit atop all beach-goers, as well as the dutiful lifeguards that monitor the waters. WBOC’s Corey Phoebus went to learn more about the historic beach guards when he visited the OC Lifesaving Museum.

Also along the boardwalk are many great stores, shops and restaurants, but for families really hoping to bring the classic Ocean City amusement to life- there is Trimper’s Rides and Amusement. With more than 100 years of tradition under it’s belt, the family, fun, hot-spot is a go-to for children of all ages, and for parents still in touch with their inner kid. In fact the park was just certified as the oldest family owned amusement park in the country! DelmarvaLife was lucky enough to host Brooks Trimper who, not only is carrying on his family’s legacy but also, has a true passion for bringing enjoyment to everyone through the park. Brooks told us the rich history behind the family business, and also how he sees the amusement park progressing into the future.

For those still looking for fun after spending time at Trimper’s try heading down to OC Screams. Lisa got an up-close look at the popular attraction and said it is definitely not for the faint of heart. The haunted ship opened last season and is eagerly awaiting the beginning of the summer 2017 season with state of the art animatronics, props and actors ready to bring the haunting experience to life. OC Screams opens for the summer 5/25 at 7:00 on Worcester Street in Ocean City.

Phew- with all that excitement, it’s time to hit up another OC must, Thrashers, for some of their famous fries. Lisa got some behind the scenes action at the mouthwatering shop. Dating back to 1929- Thrashers Fries has been, year-after-year, gifting people with french fry gold, and general manger Les Morris told Lisa that there’s no secret recipe or hidden tricks, it’s just all about commitment to the quality that started it all.

Finally, what better way to end the day with a sweet treat, and

Dolle’s

in Ocean City is just the place. After 100-years of sweetness, Dolle’s will forever be cemented as a go-to spot for Ocean City regulars and a must for all of those visiting. Since the beginning, their famous salt water taffy is now being sold along side fresh caramel popcorn, homemade fudge and other mouthwatering candies.
