Jeff Merritt and Dave Wharton with the Lower Shore Veterans Network, join us to talk about their upcoming event, “Eastern Shore Stand Down.” The event is Oct. 15 from 10 am – 3 pm at American Legion Post 64. It’s a one day event that serves veterans and their families who are in need of housing, jobs, benefits, and other services.

We’re making apple strudel in the DelmarvaLife kitchen to get a preview of the Apple Scrapple Festival in Bridgeville, Del. Apple Scrapple Contest Coordinator, Rita Hovervale and Executive Chair, Karen Johnson tell us about all the fun we can have at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Apple Scrapple. The event is Oct. 14-15 beginning at 4 pm on Friday, Oct. 14. Admission, parking, and the bus service is all free!

TS Smith’s Apple Strudel Recipe

apples

1 1/2 cups sugar, divided

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 egg, beaten

Place in the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish, a thick layer of apples.  Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.  Set aside.  Mix together 1 cup sugar, flour, salt, and baking powder.  Add beaten egg to dry mixture until crumbly.  Sprinkle  on top of apples.  Bake at 350 degree until brown and apples are tender.  Serve warm or cold.
