Speaking multiple languages may seem daunting at times, but there is actually a load of benefits to being multi-lingual.
According to the Dept. of Education, they included strong thinking and problem solving skills, better grades, and the possibility of more job opportunities than those who not not speak multiple languages. College and Career Counselor at the Wicomico Board of Education, Cale Holmes, and Coordinator of Secondary and Stem Initiatives, Dave Horner, joins us in the studio to talk about Wicomico County’s Chinese Language and Culture Series.

We’re also stepping into the DelmarvaLife kitchen with Jing Zhang of Salisbury, Md. to get a taste of the Chinese culture. The most famous dish is dumplings and are popular during the Spring Festival. The festival is much like Thanksgiving Day in America. Red is a popular color in the Chinese culture also. Jing says the red color “scares the monsters away” as it says in the old Chinese stories. Jing talks about how they decorate their homes during the Spring Festival with different zodiac signs with whatever year it may be in the Chinese culture along with positive messages of good fortune.
The Spring Festival lasts for half a month and no ones goes to work. They just spend time with family and friends during the Spring Festival.
