Chesapeake Bay Farms is the only “cow to cone” dairy farm on the Eastern Shore. It was featured for the fifth time in a row on the Maryland Ice Cream Trail.

The 2016 Maryland Ice Cream Trail features “nine dairy farms that offer fresh, delicious on-farm ice cream.” If you visit each of the nine farms on the trail, answer a question, and get a passport stamp at each stop, you can enter to win a $50 certificate to the creamery of your choice.

Chesapeake Bay Farms has two locations: one in Pocomoke, and one in Berlin. The farm makes ice cream, cheeses, and butter on site in its fully-licensed and inspected facility. These products are available for retail or wholesale. The stores usually have 20 flavors of ice cream available, but in total have about 40 or so.

Laura Holland, co-owner of Chesapeake Bay Farms, says she is excited that her business is being featured on the trail again.

“We’re very honored, it’s great to be recognized for something that you love to do,” Holland said. “We think it’s a great program that is a great promotion for local businesses.”

Holland says it is important for Americans to know where their food comes from. And locally, “there’s no place fresher to get your cheese and ice cream.”

The farms have 250 animals, and they milk 100 of them. There are only eight other farms like Chesapeake Bay Farms in Maryland. To make products onsite requires special equipment and processes, which makes farms like this so unique, Holland said.

The summer season has brought in a lot of business, and is keeping the farm busy.  The business is working on keeping both retail and wholesale stocked.

“We are running around!” Holland said.
