Posted: Updated:

BELLTOWN, Del.- Delaware State Police have released the name of a 53-year-old man whose body was discovered outside a home in the Belltown area of eastern Sussex County late Monday night.

According to police, the man was identified as Ronald H. Johnson of Lewes. An autopsy conducted Tuesday by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science has not ruled on the death pending further investigation, police said.

Police said that shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, troopers responded to the 32000 block of Lewes-Georgetown Highway after a neighbor contacted 9-1-1 to report an unconscious man outside a camper parked on the property.  Sussex County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead, according to police.

DSP homicide detectives have assumed the investigation into this incident as foul play is suspected, according to police.  Detectives are continuing their investigation by conducting interviews and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding Johnson's death.

Police said additional information and investigative details will be released as soon as they becomes available and the investigation progresses.  No suspect information has been developed at this time.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective J. King at (302) 698-8561.  Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via the internet at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword "DSP."
