PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Somerset County community gathered Wednesday afternoon to cut the ribbon for a new playground at Greenwood Elementary School in Princess Anne. The old playground was ruined after it caught fire in July due to arson.

"It was pretty devastating," said parent Claudette Beckett.

A new playground now stands behind the elementary school.

"[My daughter and I] ride past here on a daily basis, so she wanted me to be sure I saw her new playground go up," said Beckett. "It's beautiful."

"Regardless of the cause of the fire, we knew that our priority was to make plans immediately to rebuild the playground so the students have a safe place to play again and the community coming together really made that happen," said Principal Ashley Walters.

Walters said the school has received updated camera software since that arson.
