EASTON, Md.- A Talbot County woman and her boyfriend are facing multiple charges after the woman's infant son suffered multiple injuries while in the boyfriend's care, according to the Talbot County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Mallory Kevin Winstead Jr., 29, of Queen Anne was charged with first- and second-degree child abuse, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, neglect of a minor, and obstructing and hindering,.

Jessica Jayne Kinsey, 31, also of Queen Anne, was charged with neglect of a minor, accessory after the fact, and obstructing and hindering.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Kinsey's 5-month-old son was flown to Johns Hopkins Children Center on Dec. 31 for serious head injuries.

Testing conducted by doctors at Johns Hopkins reportedly showed the child had multiple injuries indicative of abuse.

Authorities say their investigation revealed the child was injured sometime between Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 while in Winstead's care.

According to deputies, from the outset of the investigation, Kinsey failed to cooperate with the investigation and maintained a fabricated account of what happened to her son.

Winstead and Kinsey were taken to Talbot County Detention Center where they are being held without bond.

Capt. John Bollinger of the Sheriff's Office said the child is out of the hospital and living with other family members. According to Bollinger, doctors say the child will have some issues from the head injuries, but due to his age, it is too soon to tell what those issues will be.
