Fans Wait Out Rain Postponement for NASCAR in Dover

DOVER, Del.- Fans from across the country---and beyond the U.S. borders---who traveled to Dover for a postponed NASCAR race piled into the grandstands at the Monster Mile to see Martin Truex Jr.'s win on Monday.

The race was initially scheduled for Sunday afternoon, though rain prompted the race to be postponed.

Noelle Burris of Wilmington left Sunday night but returned on Monday with her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend to take in the race --- once they had all been able to get out of work on Monday.

"We've been pretty fortunate to get our Sunday races in. It is kind of weird not having my trailer here," she said.

Michael Carnevale of upstate New York said he had long since learned to anticipate rain postponements following previous trips to Dover.

"I've been coming here since about 2001 and I've learned after about the first three or four years to take Monday off of work because you can never predict the weather," he said.

Others like Matt Mosier of Buffalo, N.Y., said they saw many people who had camped out for days but could not spare the first day of the work week for the race.

"We got 20 extra tickets from people who left," he said. "It's an Inconvenience but weather happens."
