DORCHESTER CO., MD - Dorchester County Public Schools (DCPS) has announced the cancellation of 2025 summer school sessions due to budgetary challenges.
In a statement released March 20, The Board of Education of Dorchester County says the cancellation applies to elementary and middle school summer sessions in addition to the high school credit recovery summer program.
Because of the cancellation, education officials say middle and high school students will no longer have the opportunity for credit recovery this summer, and students who are failing will not be able to make up work or courses. The Board of Education encouraged students to avoid being required to repeat a grade level by improving their grades by the end of the year.
“We want parents to have this information in order to plan accordingly,” the Board of Education said. “If your student is failing a course, please reach out to the school to determine what can be done to help your child pass the course prior to the end of the school year so he/she does not risk being retained in the same grade level next year.”
DCPS officials say the cancellation of summer school does not affect the Extended School Year for special education students, nor does it impact the Summer Career Enrichment Program offered in Talbot County.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
