MILLSBORO, DE– A Friday morning fire in the Sherwood Forest development was ruled accidental, according to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company.

IRVFC was alerted to the blaze on Robin Hoods Loop around 11:10 a.m. yesterday.

Crews arrived to see flames fully engulfing a house and a car parked outside a garage with a ruptured fuel tank – posing an exposure risk.

Companies from Lewes, Milton, Millsboro and Dagsboro assisted to contain the fire, with the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Fire Police also intervening.

IRVFC reports everyone inside the house was brought to safety and assessed by Emergency Medical Services. Those displaced by the fire will now be assisted by neighbors.

State Fire Marshal investigators determined the cause as an unknown mechanical malfunction in a recently parked riding lawn mower.

The damage is estimated at $250,000.
