CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Three downtown Cambridge restaurants have closed their doors for good just weeks apart. Some people in the area say the restaurants will be sorely missed.
On Thursday, construction workers got down to business on High Street just feet away from the now shuddered restaurant known as The High Spot. The paper posted on the front door declared it "permanently closed."
Around the corner, RAR Brewing business owner JT Merryweather says it's sad to see a fellow businessman go. Patrick Fanning owned The High Spot as well as the restaurants Stoked and Rock Lobstah.
"I would say I was shocked actually," Merryweather said.
But business owners like Merryweather and Downtown Cambridge's Executive Director Katie Clendaniel say the closures are nothing to worry about. Clendaniel says a new retail store now occupies the old Rock Lobstah. There's also growing interest to rent space in both Stoked and The High Spot.
"There are very good things coming," Clendaniel said. "It's a really great sign for downtown because it means that people are interested and will continue to invest here."
WBOC tried reaching out to Fanning about why he closed all three restaurants but were unable to get comment.
The building owners said in a statement they were disappointed to see Fanning go, calling him a "pioneer restaurateur."
