SALISBURY, MD - A Wicomico County man with an outstanding warrant was arrested after fleeing from officers and colliding with two vehicles on U.S. Route 50 on Thursday.
On Thursday, May 15th, a Deputy from the Wicomco County Sheriff's Office was traveling on the Route 13, Salisbury By-pass when he observed a vehicle he knew to be frequently occupied by 23-year-old Michael Brinson, of Salisbury. The deputy who saw Brinson knew he had an outstanding arrest warrant through the Wicomico County Circuit Court after failing to appear when facing robbery, assault, and theft charges.
The sheriff's office says the deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on the Salisbury By-pass and Brinson was asked to exit his vehicle multiple times by law enforcement. He failed to comply with commands and instead fled the scene in a Toyota Highlander.
A vehicle pursuit ensued as Brinson fled north on Route 50 and Hobbs Road. During the pursuit, Brinson "failed to obey a steady red signal at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Hobbs Road". According to the sheriff's office, Brinson illegally entered the intersection and collided with a box truck. The impact from this collision forced Brinson's vehicle into another vehicle, a Ford Explorer that was stopped and waiting to cross Route 50.
Following to crash, Brinson exited the vehicle and fled on foot from deputies who gave him multiple commands to stop. After the pursuit, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says deputies were able to apprehend him in a wooded area close to the roadway.
Michael Brinson was arrested and charged with "several traffic charges related to the collision, as well as several criminal charges, including resisting arrest, obstructing and hindering and failure to obey a lawful order."
The sheriff's office says he will be released to the Wicomico County Detention Center, where he will be presented to a Wicomico County District Court Commissioner to be seen on the charges related to this incident. Brinson is being held on no bond until he is seen by a Wicomico County Circuit Court Judge.
