We are saddened to share the passing of Caroline Lee (McKee) Wicks, who left us peacefully on Sunday, July 26th, in Ocean City, Maryland. Though her departure was unexpected due to complications, Caroline’s final moments were filled with joy as she fulfilled her heartfelt wish of visiting the Boardwalk, surrounded by those she loved.
Born on April 1, 1944, in Muncy, Pennsylvania, Caroline was the beloved daughter of James Myers and Pauline (Cromley) McKee. Her remarkable drive and dedication carried her through a successful professional journey at Carey-McFalls, Sylvania, and Bailey. After retiring, she turned her boundless energy toward her true passion—cooking and baking. As head cook at Uptown Diner, Caroline delighted friends and family with her creative recipes, always sharing with a warm smile and a playful insistence on measuring by instinct rather than with utensils.
Caroline embraced life’s adventures, taking up karate in her 60s and proudly earning a Brown Belt. She was a talented knitter, crafting sweaters, hats, and countless other creations from any pattern she could find. Her home was a reflection of her vibrant spirit, with seasonal porch decorations and breathtaking floral arrangements that welcomed every guest. It was Caroline’s tradition to greet visitors with a delicious meal, a tasty treat, or a spirited tour of her latest gardening addition.
She was a devoted grandmother, never missing a moment to encourage and support her grandchildren—whether it was a spontaneous sleepover, cheering at a sports game, or helping them shop for back-to-school essentials. Caroline always reminded us that how we carry ourselves shapes others’ perception, teaching by example the importance of kindness, confidence, and grace. Her wisdom, “You will get more bees with honey,” remains a guiding light for all she loved.
Caroline is survived by her daughter Michelle L. Spotts (Stanley), her sons Alan B. Kinney and Steven B. Wicks, and five grandchildren: Terra Shaner (Zachary), Jared Spotts, Kyle Spotts, Emily Wicks, and Victoria (Kinney) Fronk. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Emery.
The family will honor Caroline’s memory with a private service at their convenience. Caroline’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, and we will forever cherish the warmth, wisdom, and love she shared with us all.
