Darryl Lee Burton, 69, of Smyrna, Delaware passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill on September 18, 2026.
He was born in Lewes, Delaware on September 11, 1957, to the late John Clifton Burton ll (“Jack”) and Gladys Hill Burton Stevens (“Hilly”).
He was predeceased by his brothers, William Virden Burton (“ Randy”) and Charles Ennis Burton (“Chuck”), and an infant daughter.
He is survived by a son, Corby Lee Burton (Tammy) of Georgetown, Delaware and a daughter, Hannah Jaed McIlvain-Burton (Gavrie) of Dagsboro, Delaware; his siblings, John Clifton Burton III (Diane) of Lewes, Delaware and Jane Bahr Burton Darden (John) of Franklin, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Regan, Rebecca and Colton Burton; and several nieces and nephews.
Darryl was a marine mechanic and worked many years at Bob’s Marine Service in Clarksville, Delaware. He enjoyed working with his hands and in his leisure time he would work on the boats of his family and his friends.
Darryl enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending time with his family.
While residing at the Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Darryl spent many of his days sitting at the lake, going to the canteen for ice cream and eating crab cakes at the Smyrna Diner with his friends.
He always had a great sense of adventure and humor. He will be lovingly remembered for the joy he found in these simple pleasures, and for the memories he created with those who loved him.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill and to Jessica and staff at Delaware Hospice. Their compassionate care and support during Darryl’s illness will always be remembered.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026 at 10:30 AM at The Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, 100 Sunnyside Road, Smyrna, Delaware 19977.
