It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Z. Basle of Ocean City, MD, who departed this life on June 22, 2026. Born on May 1, 1955, in Silver Spring, Maryland, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Kappenaros) Basle.
George began his career working in his family’s restaurant businesses before building a successful career in the automobile industry. In 2003, he made Ocean City his home, where he co-owned H2O Under 21 Club and later co-founded Taxi Taxi. He retired in 2020 and enjoyed splitting his time between Ocean City, Maryland, and Delray Beach, Florida, with his beloved dog, Itsy, and his longtime companion, Kim Wilson.
George loved being on the water, riding his bicycle on the Boardwalk, and spending summer afternoons at the Harbor Island pool—his favorite “office”—with friends and neighbors.
George is survived by his son, Nicholas Basle of Boynton Beach, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Basle.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the coming weeks.
