Janice Mae Pierson, 82, of Salisbury passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake following a massive stroke. She entered eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family.
Born June 8, 1943, in Grasonville, MD she was the daughter of the late Arnold Burton South and Ola Mae (Hoxter) South. She found joy in gardening, going to the beach, reading and attending church. Careful and prepared by nature, she rarely splurged on herself and was famous for keeping a stocked pantry and freezer -- prepared for anything from a storm to the end of the world. Trips to the grocery store were among her favorite routines.
She spent much of her career doing clerical work at Nichols Department Store and Alarm Guard, later working as a pharmacy technician at NeighborCare. Before fully retiring, she also worked at Boscov's. In retirement, she volunteered at HALO Bargain Center and Emmanuel Church as a greeter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Andrew Pierson, daughter-in-law, Donna Pierson and her sister-in-law, Barbara South.
She is survived by her children, Phillip Pierson (Lee Ann), and Jill North (Gary) of Salisbury, MD, Anthony "Tony" Pierson (Sandy) of Princess Anne, MD and Beth Pollick (Alan) of Wellston, OK. She is also survived by her two brothers, Larry South (Betty) of Miami, FL and David South of Queenstown, MD
She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Trevor Pierson, Lucia Pierson, Karen North (Dave), Christopher North (Lindsey), Lindsay Bryans (Devry), Jeffrey Pierson and Heather Pruitt. She was also blessed to enjoy the love and joy of her ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Janice's legacy will live on through her kindness, gentle spirit, loyalty, quiet strength and selfless love; she will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Church, 217 Beaglin Park Dr., Salisbury, MD 21804 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD. Friends may visit prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
