Jessica Renee Carey Annis, 35, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at her home. She was the loving daughter of Richard Norman Carey, III (Jennifer) and Rosemary Duwel (Michael).
Jessica will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and creativity. She found comfort and clarity in playing drums, and she had a deep appreciation for music and movies. Her personality was reflected in her especially vibrant hair colors, which became a signature part of how she expressed herself. She loved her career and appreciated the bond she shared with those who sat in her chair.
She loved animals deeply and shared her home with many beloved pets. Cooking was one of her ways of bringing people together, often using Greek seasoning, something her loved ones are encouraged to keep in her memory in their pantry.
Above all, she was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, and friend, who loved her son deeply.
In addition to her parents, Jess is survived by her husband, Zane Annis, II; and her son, Tyler Carey. She is lovingly remembered by her grandfather, Richard "Dick" Carey, Jr., siblings: Scott Carey, Hunter Bodine, Jennifer Dryden (Swapneel Kadam), Brooklyn Carey, Hailey Carey, Layton Carey, Riley Carey, and Kimberly Maurya (Vishal); her father in law, Zane Annis, Sr., and her sister-in-law, Jazz Annis. She leaves behind her niece and nephews: Kora McCourt, Michael Annis, Levi Foskey, and Giana Maurya. She is also survived by her aunts, Jennifer Darcy (Tim), her uncles, Harry and Barry Bodine, and her step uncles, Robert and William Hastings. She was dearly loved by her dogs: Toby, Ray Ray, Daisy, BeBe, Charlie, Charlotte, and Cookie; and her cats: Gus, Eckert, and Davila.She is remembered by several cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Irene Carey, who she lovingly called "Mom"; her grandmother, Betty Hastings; her step-grandfather, William Hastings; and her grandfather, Harry Bodine.
A celebration of Jessica's life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories during visitation on Friday evening, May 22, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Wicomico County Humane Society, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804 or the Epilepsy Foundation via their website, www.epilepsy.org/donate.
