John Wilbur Shenk, Sr. entered into Heaven on August 15, 2026, just a few hours shy of his 90th birthday. John was a resident of Salisbury, Md., and previously lived in Delmar, Md., and Stephens City, Va.
John was born in Lancaster County, Pa., to Martha and John Shenk. He spoke often of working on the family's tobacco farm and he excelled on the football and wrestling teams in high school. After graduation, he served his country in the Army, during the end of the Korean War and for several years thereafter. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked in the restaurant management industry where he was known as a problem-solver. He transitioned eventually to work for Lowe's and retired there after over 20+ years as a warehouse manager. Even after retirement, John tried to stay busy while delivering paper and area magazines for local companies.
In his spare time, John enjoyed woodworking, watching his favorite Orioles baseball team, putting together puzzles and traveling with his beloved wife, Linda. They traveled together on many adventures, from cross-country camping to Alaskan cruises. She was the love of his life and they were married for over 55 years.
John is survived by his loving wife, Linda; their only child, a daughter Lisa (Daniel) of Salisbury; grandsons Joshua and Andrew (Meghan) of Salisbury; and great-granddaughter Addison, of Pocomoke. He will also be missed by many in-laws; nieces and nephews.
John also leaves behind a daughter, Alicia (Curt); sons John Jr., David, and Bryan in Pa. from a previous marriage, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harold; sisters Betty, Doris and Joanne. His last remaining sibling, Robert remains in Pa.
John was described as a hard-working man who never looked his age, and always had a quick smile and kind words. He had wonderful landscaping skills and was always proud to show off his gardens. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed many celebrations together over food. He will be missed greatly, but his family takes comfort in knowing that he has rejoined others that he was missing and will be looking down upon us.
A memorial service will be planned for the family at a later date in Virginia.
