Michael G. Murray, 68, of Salisbury passed away Friday, July 31, 2026, in Bay Harbor Post Acute Care, Salisbury.
Born June 9, 1958, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late George A. and Elizabeth H. Murray and the grandson of the late Norman and Pansy Murray and Lester and Bessie Hastings.
Upon graduating from Wicomico Senior High School in 1976 Michael attended Tusculum University in Tennessee. He accepted a teaching position in Delaware in 1980 and later became a principal retiring in 2015 with 35 years of service. During his tenure he received his Master of Education and Doctorate degrees.
Michael served on the Wicomico County Board of Education from 2017 through 2022, including serving as Board Vice Chairman from 2020 to 2022. In total, he dedicated 6 years of service to the students, staff, and community of Wicomico County.
He was a long-standing member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Michael was active in numerous organizations and took on many leadership positions throughout his life including the Antique Automobile Club of America, Eastern Shore Region AACA, Bay Country Region AACA, the Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI), Life member of the Power Squadron, Wicomico County Education Foundation and the Westside Historical Society.
Among Michael's many hobbies were collecting antique automobiles, as well as antique promotional materials and cars. He also collected antique toys, and Lionel trains which he had displayed and enjoyed sharing with others. He always loved socializing with people at Jaycee dinners, volunteering at Cosquay Farms, participating in car shows and conventions, and chairing scholarship committees. Michael loved to travel, not only in the United States, but internationally as well. On numerous occasions he had the unique opportunity to chaperone many students on these trips.
For many years he served as the treasurer for the Wi-Hi Class of 1976 and helped plan reunions.
Michael is survived by his cousin, Dean Donaway.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM in Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Fred Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Pittsville Cemetery.
