On August 22, 2026, Susan (Sue) Schmitt went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was the daughter of the late William and Anna MacCubbin.
Sue graduated from The Catholic High School of Baltimore and Towson State College. Following college, she joined the Army Reserves. She then went on to work at Gallagher Center, where she met her husband of 46 years, Drew Schmitt. After they were married, they settled down and had kids, eventually moving to Salisbury in 1986 where they raised their family. She was a cantor and piano player for St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She had a love for music since she was a little girl. She enjoyed taking care of kids. More recently, she worked at HALO Center Of Hope, where she ran the children's center at night, and worked in Guest Services, where she was very particular about her mail room. She enjoyed being there and would speak of it often. She suffered a stroke in 2020, but she remained strong and was very independent. Even for the last two weeks she fought hard until the very end. She enjoyed fishing (even from her wheelchair), doing puzzles, walking, reading, and being with loved ones.
In addition to her husband, Drew, Sue is also survived by her loving children, Ellen Callahan, Amy Miskimon (James), Jacob Schmitt (Ashley), and Brian Schmitt; her siblings, Judy Collison (Tim), David MacCubbin (Claire), Teresa Gangler (Lee), and Fran Duckworth (Dave); her cherished grandchildren, Liam Callahan, Teagan Callahan, and Nathan Schmitt; several cousins; nieces; nephews; and her HALO family.
A Celebration of Life to remember Sue will be on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with the official service beginning at 2:00 PM at HALO Center of Hope, located at 119 South Boulevard, Salisbury, MD 21804.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to HALO Center of Hope, P.O. Box 2227, Salisbury, MD 21801.
