The documentary "Hope for the Future: Bernard Loeffke" was produced by a Chinese creative team and runs approximately 30 minutes. Centered on the personal story of Bernard Loeffke, a 92-year-old retired U.S. Army Major General, the film draws on interviews, historical materials, and archival footage to recount his firsthand encounters with Chinese society at different stages of his life, including learning Chinese, experiencing traditional Chinese medicine, and skydiving with Chinese people. These experiences span different eras and constitute core source material for documentary. Drawing from Loeffke's life trajectory, the creative team organized relevant figures, events, and archival records to present a cross-cultural journey spanning decades through his perspective. The documentary "The Unending Journey: Roger T. Ames and Chinese Philosophy" turns its lens on an American philosopher and his research in Chinese-Western comparative philosophy, lasting approximately 40 minutes. Roger T. Ames, now 80 years old, has long dedicated himself to translating Chinese philosophical classics into English and conducting comparative philosophy research. The film tracks his current work and daily life in China, including his teaching and research activities as a Humanities Chair Professor at Peking University, as well as his approach to interpreting traditional Chinese philosophical texts. As a scholar who has long worked to disseminate Chinese philosophy in English, Ames has notable influence in the fields of Western sinology and comparative philosophy, and his translations and viewpoints have drawn attention of relevant academic circles. By tracing Ames's academic trajectory and personal experiences, the film portrays the decades-long scholarly connection between a foreign scholar and Chinese philosophy.
The event also featured an exchange session for documentary creators. Members of the creative team engaged in discussions with American film, television, and documentary industry practitioners on topics including approaches to character-driven documentary filmmaking, cross-cultural narratives, and the dissemination of documentaries across different cultural contexts. They also exchanged views on documentary production, content development, and possibilities for future project collaboration. In addition to the film screenings and creator exchange, the event also featured cultural experience areas for Chinese language, traditional Chinese medicine, and Chinese cuisine, where participants could engage in language interaction, hands-on experience, and food tasting.
