Parging Installation Process

Parging is a thin layer of material that is particularly beneficial for foundation and basement walls. This method effectively covers and fortifies the foundation with a protective coating against various hazards and external influences. Contrary to popular belief, concrete walls can deteriorate and weaken over time, necessitating the application of an appropriate parge coating. The same applies to ICF foundations, which are often covered with Styrofoam that can degrade and become discolored due to UV exposure, and pressure treated plywood that may swell and warp after prolonged exposure to moisture.

In the case of a standard poured concrete foundation, we begin by clearing away pebbles, rocks, and dirt from the walls. Any protruding metal pieces are trimmed off. Next, we wash the walls to ensure they are free of dirt. Following this, we apply a vapor barrier membrane over the exposed wood plates and rim joists, reinforced with an A-mesh. If necessary or requested, we install flashings, typically above basement windows and ventilation covers. We then apply a concrete bonding adhesive before laying down a thick parge coat. For ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) foundations, we rasp the walls and add EIFS trims as needed. In projects involving ICF and acrylic parging, we embed the parge coat within fiberglass mesh, followed by the application of texture and color as specified. The premises are cleaned, and we attend to any final touch-ups.
