Expert Parging Contractor
For the past decade, we have been assisting homeowners, builders, project managers, and various contractors with a wide range of parging and related small construction projects. Parging serves as a protective coating system that shields foundation walls from elements such as ice, water, dirt, and sunlight, while also guarding against issues like mold and rust. Beyond its protective qualities, parging enhances the aesthetic appeal of walls through an array of textures and color choices.
For the last six years, Solida Parging has been dedicated to providing support to individuals and businesses with diverse parging and related projects, ranging from small to medium scale. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, we extend free estimates within the greater city area and its surroundings.
We offer a variety of services, including:
- Traditional textured
- Smooth textured
- Acrylic
- ICF based
- Pressure treated plywood based
Our team undertakes numerous project types and addresses various needs, including repairs and patching of foundation, retaining, and basement walls. With a keen focus on detail, we manage nearly every aspect of the project from initial preparation to the final cleanup. A thorough walkaround will be conducted with the client to ensure complete satisfaction; if the clients are unavailable, we will provide visual documentation such as pictures and videos.
Parging Installation Process
Parging is a thin layer of material that is particularly beneficial for foundation and basement walls. This method effectively covers and fortifies the foundation with a protective coating against various hazards and external influences. Contrary to popular belief, concrete walls can deteriorate and weaken over time, necessitating the application of an appropriate parge coating. The same applies to ICF foundations, which are often covered with Styrofoam that can degrade and become discolored due to UV exposure, and pressure treated plywood that may swell and warp after prolonged exposure to moisture.
In the case of a standard poured concrete foundation, we begin by clearing away pebbles, rocks, and dirt from the walls. Any protruding metal pieces are trimmed off. Next, we wash the walls to ensure they are free of dirt. Following this, we apply a vapor barrier membrane over the exposed wood plates and rim joists, reinforced with an A-mesh. If necessary or requested, we install flashings, typically above basement windows and ventilation covers. We then apply a concrete bonding adhesive before laying down a thick parge coat. For ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) foundations, we rasp the walls and add EIFS trims as needed. In projects involving ICF and acrylic parging, we embed the parge coat within fiberglass mesh, followed by the application of texture and color as specified. The premises are cleaned, and we attend to any final touch-ups.
Parging Repair
When sections of parging begin to deteriorate and crumble, it is an opportune moment to consider a parging repair service that can rejuvenate the appearance of your foundation. While small cracks are generally considered normal and pose no significant issues, deeper cracks can accumulate dirt and water, leading to the eventual detachment of parging. Water infiltration into these cracks can freeze during winter, expanding in size, and thawing during summer, which contributes to the loss of parge coating. Additionally, foundation shifts are a common cause of parging cracks, particularly where the garage connects to the main structure, as these shifts can result in sections of parging detaching.
Color alterations in parging can also occur due to prolonged exposure to moisture. Parging absorbs moisture, and when temperatures rise, it can leave behind stains that alter the color of the surface. This effect may cause certain areas of the parging to appear darker and more matte. We offer parging repair services of all kinds within the greater Edmonton area; however, for minor repairs such as cracks and patches, we prefer to request visuals like pictures instead of scheduling an on-site visit for a free estimate.
Both parging installations and repairs enhance the visual appeal of foundation walls while providing an additional layer of protection against various hazards. It is wise to ensure that your foundation walls not only look good but also safeguard the basement. Reach out to us via phone or email, and we will respond promptly.
