Sterling's slide against the euro and dollar is quietly reshaping where Britain's wealthiest holidaymakers choose to spend their money this summer, and increasingly the answer is not Tuscany or the Alps but home.
The pound recently fell to a three-week low against the euro and a five-week low against the US dollar, driven by inflation concerns and rising oil prices linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The shift is already visible at scale. New research shows 48% of Britons have ruled out travelling abroad in 2026, with the cost of living cited by a third as the primary reason, and more than 25 million UK adults are expected to holiday domestically this year. Nearly half say there are "countless brilliant destinations" on their own doorstep, and over a third believe a UK break is a better way to connect with family and friends than going abroad.
