Delaware kicked off its annual agricultural week Monday without poultry sessions due to avian flu concerns. Some poultry farmers, and others within the peninsula's agricultural industry, expressed their concern over recent reported cases.
According to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC), approximately 40 to 50 dead snow geese from Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge have tested 'presumptive positive' for H5N1 avian influenza, or 'bird flu'.
The chicken industry is a staple on Delmarva, and just like any industry, those birds produce waste. A proposal in Sussex County is aiming to transform that organic material... into energy. The proposal would put something called an anaerobic digester in Seaford, operated by the company Bioenergy Devco. That digester would go in the Bioenergy Innovation Center off of Seaford Rd.
