U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened Iran after the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saw open calls for his killing. The comments by Trump, made on his Truth Social website, likely again will turn up tensions in the Mideast. There had been multiple days of U.S. airstrikes targeting Iran, as well as Iranian retaliatory fire targeting nations across the Mideast. “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat,” Trump wrote.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s pledge to give Ukraine a license to produce Patriot air-defense systems could mark a major breakthrough for Kyiv. But experts and Ukrainian officials warn that turning the idea into real weapons would likely take years. Speaking Wednesday alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump said the United States would allow Ukraine to make the U.S.-designed systems that Kyiv has long sought to shield its cities from Russian missiles and drones. A production license would not automatically allow Ukraine to manufacture complete Patriot batteries. It could instead cover a narrower part of the system, such as interceptor missiles or selected components.

The U.S. military has launched a series of strikes against Iranian targets after three merchant ships were struck in the waters off Oman. U.S. Central Command says in a social media post that U.S. forces launched the strikes early Wednesday were meant to impose costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara. European leaders at the summit are trying to show increased military capabilities as the U.S. focus shifts from defending Europe. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said Wednesday that the overnight U.S. strikes on Iran were necessary.
