The Maryland General Assembly opens its annual 90-day legislative session on Wednesday with lawmakers set to wrestle with budget challenges as well as measures on affordable housing and public safety.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore’s administration is proposing about $3.3 billion in wide-ranging budget cuts for the state’s six-year transportation spending plan. 

Maryland lawmakers got passed their differences and reached a deal Friday on the state’s $62.5 billion budget that includes making major investments in prekindergarten through 12th grade education.
