Ethiopia's federal police are driving through the regional capital of Tigray after anti-government forces withdrew over the weekend following renewed fighting, and calling on resident over loudspeakers to help establish a new administration. The government-allied fighters entered the city after the rebels of Tigray People's Liberation Front, or TPLF, pulled out. The rebels had joined an alliance to oust Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, escalating fighting and undermining a 2022 peace deal. However, local government offices remained closed on Friday as the city awaits new authorities. Meanwhile, reports of Eritrean troops entering Ethiopia have raised regional tensions.
