A federal judge has temporarily blocked a new Trump administration policy to detain migrant children in adult facilities once they turn 18. On Saturday, U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras issued a restraining order to prevent these transfers. Advocates argue the policy violates the judge's 2021 court order to release 18-year-olds to less restrictive settings. The policy is part of a broader push under President Donald Trump to remove children who enter the United States without accompanying adults. Officials are also offering some migrant children $2,500 to voluntarily return to their home countries. Last month, a separate judge blocked attempts to immediately deport Guatemalan migrant children back to their home country.
