A New York woman whose father took her to Syria as a teenager and arranged her marriage to an Islamic State fighter has been convicted of receiving weapons training from the militant group. Halima Salman burst into tears on hearing the verdict Tuesday, as did one of her relatives in the courtroom. Salman was 17 when her father took the family into Syria during that country’s civil war. She testified during the two-week trial that she never underwent military training and resisted the marriage arranged by her father, which took place when she was 18. Prosecutors said Salman was a willing participant who pledged loyalty to the Islamic State group.
