Israel said it had targeted a Hamas spokesperson, as hospitals and witnesses across the enclave reported dozens killed in airstrikes and gunfire. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel had attacked Abu Obeida, the longtime spokesman for Hamas’ Qassam Brigades, but did not know whether he had been killed. Hospitals and eyewitnesses reported additional deaths across Gaza, including near aid distribution points. Most were reported from Gaza City, which Israel has declared a combat zone and begun the initial stages of a broadened offensive.
